9 string Melody Bowl in Apple
Melody Bowl in Apple
I first made a 9-string Melody Bowl as a lullaby instrument for my kids. This one, made from Dart Estuary Applewood, by Wilfred at the original Devon Sounding Bowl studios is easily tuned to either the major scale plus-one or to the ancient Celtic pentatonic mode as played in the sample here. Apple wood Sounding Bowls have tonal flavour that is sweet and refreshing – as one might surmise from the fruit this tree bears 😉 This bowl is extra lightweight, easy to hold and has far more volume than one would expect of such a small instrument. It is full of that harmony of overtones that has made Sounding Bowls famous across the world. Listen below.
