Melody Bowl in Sycamore
I first made a 9-string Melody Bowl as a lullaby instrument for my kids. I would play four or five short lullabies from just outside their room so I could sneak off once they were dozing. This one, Made from Hawkwood Sycamore by Wilfred at the original Devon Sounding Bowl studios is easily tuned to either the major scale plus-one or to the ancient Celtic pentatonic mode as played in the sample here. This bowl combines a lot of warmth with the lightness of such a small instrument and has the full richness of pulsing overtone diversity that has made Sounding Bowls famous across the world.
