Lyre Bowl in Cherry
Lyre Bowl, 9 string in Cherry wood
Out of stock
The 9 string Lyre Bowls cover the notes needed for most songs. I used this size for lullabies when I had younger kids. The alternating string layout with deepest notes in the centre is common on African instruments but counter-intuitive for most Europeans, it adds a harmonic diversity to the overtones and gives a different, almost jazz-like quality to free-improvisations. Easy to tune in both western scales and ancient pentatonic modes. Comes with a tuning chart giving notes for each.
Cherry has a lightness of tone, full of colourful light that sets it apart from other woods. This piece grew near the workshop in Salzburg, Austria where my first trainee and master Sounding Bowl maker Ramon Floride has his workshop. Ramon’s work is always of the very best quality and you can expect generations of joy from this Sounding Bowl.
